Even Heating and Cooling systems. And Cars.

2019-10-04 22:50:59 UTC

there are a lot more car mechanics than car manufacturers.

2019-10-04 22:51:12 UTC

Big time.

2019-10-04 22:51:13 UTC

There didnt used to be

2019-10-04 22:51:31 UTC

To produce cars at our current rate without automation would require small armies

2019-10-04 22:51:40 UTC

And there are a LOT more car manufacturers that people who ever sold or raised horses.

2019-10-04 22:51:51 UTC

There's just more work.

2019-10-04 22:52:04 UTC

Saying automation will take away your job is someone who isn't thinking about going to space.

2019-10-04 22:52:20 UTC

And *How* many Cars are in America?

2019-10-04 22:52:22 UTC

The three most common jobs in the states are as follows

2019-10-04 22:52:53 UTC

Retail/food service
Trucking (my profession)
And office clerical work/administration

2019-10-04 22:53:04 UTC

All of these are replacable

2019-10-04 22:53:15 UTC

Can you make a truck that will fix itself?

2019-10-04 22:53:26 UTC

You can make a robot to fix a truck

2019-10-04 22:53:35 UTC

People were worried about this with the replacement of horses, having cars that move themselves

2019-10-04 22:53:43 UTC

Most of truck repairs are maintenance

2019-10-04 22:53:52 UTC

But you can't replace a actual person making these decisions and diagnostics.

2019-10-04 22:53:54 UTC

And even then there are a finite number of truck mechanics jobs

2019-10-04 22:53:58 UTC

Yes you can

2019-10-04 22:54:05 UTC

That's more expensive than just taking a person who knows how to fix up his own truck.

2019-10-04 22:54:11 UTC

Diagnostics are already largely done by computer

2019-10-04 22:54:31 UTC

Some things require fine motor skills in tight spaces machines will never achieve in our lifetimes

2019-10-04 22:54:40 UTC

But that still reduces the number of jobs that exist

2019-10-04 22:54:49 UTC

Even medical jobs can be replaced

2019-10-04 22:54:51 UTC

Radiology

2019-10-04 22:54:54 UTC

But we're still a long way away from self-fixing cars, and self-fixing self-stocking fast food stores.

2019-10-04 22:54:58 UTC

Medical diagnostics

2019-10-04 22:55:00 UTC

Etc

2019-10-04 22:55:06 UTC

Plus how are you going to prevent a human intrusion?

2019-10-04 22:55:23 UTC

With necessary security measures

2019-10-04 22:55:26 UTC

What's stopping someone from breaking into a Mcdonalds in 2050 and just looting the borgar

2019-10-04 22:55:35 UTC

You only need one guy there

2019-10-04 22:55:47 UTC

Oh so you DO need people to man a store

2019-10-04 22:55:50 UTC

So you have now 6 jobs as a fast food restraunt vs 60

2019-10-04 22:56:06 UTC

I can see some of middle management being replaced, they are the fat that lays on top of the muscle

2019-10-04 22:56:08 UTC

I literally just said automation was meant to replace most not all jobs

2019-10-04 22:56:11 UTC

Jesus christ

2019-10-04 22:56:32 UTC

Waitressing, cooking, management

2019-10-04 22:56:39 UTC

All machine capable

2019-10-04 22:56:55 UTC

Maintenance can all be done by two people

2019-10-04 22:57:03 UTC

It's not like half the country will be out of work, people will survive by doing their own things and adapting to that is extremely easy with the time frame that we have and will become easier the further we go, as things (being automated) will be by definition faster.
