their investment in their workers still outnumbers their net profits 68 to one.
I dont think your math is correct
I said trucking companies accross the board would save 68 billions
As in collectively
Not singularly
Knight certainly doesnt expend 68 billion per year
Just from what you've told me, not counting insurance, which could easily exceed a hundred billion, the manufacturing and R&D alone would cost several billion and it's not even on the lot.
They dont front r&d tho
The manufacturer does
You need people to MAKE the automation in the first place.
And those people are far outnumbered by the jobs they are automating
THOSE people don't have billions to throw around, their business is making the current functional trucks.
Making parts and stuff.
Their business is making the next functional truck
Yes they do have the funds to throw around for R&D
Because that is what they are doing
I'm not saying that the job growth will be in the actual production, I'm saying there's a distinct lack of production of the things that would threaten your job.
Volvo right now is testing truck AIs
You're scared of a phantom.
And I am telling you thats incorrect
Production lacks because the technology is in development
And you seem to be positing your argument as if you think I am saying this is going to happen tommorrow, or overnight
I am not
I am saying in the next 5-10 years most jobs in retail, food service, transportation, and office administration will be automated
That's what they've been saying since the Jetsons.
Robots cost more than minimum wage.
They used to
I do agree that simply cutting people out of the equation with no replacement other than "do it yourself" will be a net loss for everyone.
Minimum wage isnt the only cost of an employee
They're not replacing people with robots, they're cutting people for touchscreens
and a touchscreen cannot drive s car.
And those touch screens are a form of automation
You input what you want and the robot automatically sends that information to the line cooks and deposits your payment
Soon the line cooks will be automated

And will finally get your order correct
Until the technician has to do a diagnostic because of a glitch
Moon if you have something of use to add go right on ahead
making a fully automated freight drone, with no cabin and no need or way of someone to steal it or hijack it or hack it, is going to take longer than you need to worry.
Me specifically yes
