The Argument from Contingency
(1) Everything that exists contingently has a reason for its existence.
(2) The universe exists contingently.
Therefore:
(3) The universe has a reason for its existence.
(4) If the universe has a reason for its existence then that reason is God.
Therefore:
(5) God exists.

**Everything that exists** contingently **has a reason** for its existence.
Just another abstraction.
If the universe might not have existed, that requires an explanation.
There is nothing 'necessary' about the universe. It exists, but there is no reason why it could not have.
Right.
No reason. No nothing.
Like You or Me. We are not necessary.
Right.
So if it doesn't have to exist, why does it?
It just does. With no reason to it.
Then there is no explanation?
There is no explanation and need for it.
If there is god - it is a useless creation.
That is not necessary.
Aquinas says "if everything can not-be, then at one time there was nothing in existence" (ST I,q.2,a.3).
Oh is that in the Summa Theologica?
Yes.
god is something absolutely useless.
I really need to read it.
