2017-08-15 20:45:00 UTC

Smh

2017-08-15 20:45:01 UTC

>lenin statue in seattle

2017-08-15 20:45:12 UTC

lol

2017-08-15 20:45:53 UTC

I mean they dont make a good case for themselves when they try to beat up the statue

2017-08-15 20:46:17 UTC

```
Initially installed in Czechoslovakia in 1988, the sculpture was removed after the Velvet Revolution and brought to the United States in the 1990s.
Lewis E. Carpenter, an English teacher in Poprad originally from Issaquah, Washington, found the monumental statue lying in a scrapyard ready to be sold for the price of the bronze; Carpenter had met and befriended Venkov while in Czechoslovakia. In close collaboration with a local journalist and good friend, Tomáš Fülöpp, Carpenter approached the city officials with a claim that despite its current unpopularity, the sculpture was still a work of art worth preserving, and he offered to buy it for $13,000.[1] After many bureaucratic hurdles, he finally signed a contract with the mayor on March 16, 1993.
The statue pretty much exists because some artist went statue dumpster diving
2017-08-15 20:47:01 UTC
@Deleted User the statues can just go into a museum problem solved
2017-08-15 20:47:18 UTC
Not because Seattle worships Lenin in any way
2017-08-15 20:47:24 UTC
@Valtiel thats a great idea, bu they shouldnt be taken down and discard
2017-08-15 20:47:46 UTC
@Deleted User and its not like Charrlotesville worships the confederacy either
2017-08-15 20:48:02 UTC
@Deleted User no they shouldn't and those people will be charged anyways.
2017-08-15 20:48:30 UTC
Charlottesville is a pretty chill but expensive college town. My cousin goes there for med school
2017-08-15 20:49:01 UTC
Don't get my wrong, I am just playing devil's advocate by saying it's not stupidity that motivates tearing down these statues
2017-08-15 20:49:07 UTC
Yeah Charlottesville is really calm
2017-08-15 20:49:14 UTC
ye
2017-08-15 20:49:41 UTC
I still disapprove of destruction of history and culture, even if it's history you dislike
2017-08-15 20:49:56 UTC
I'm quite surprised they banned CSA flag and remove confederate statues when fucking southern states have confederate flag in their flags and coats of arms
2017-08-15 20:50:28 UTC
I would neither approve of tearing down a Stalin nor Hitler nor Merkel statue
2017-08-15 20:50:37 UTC
mhm
2017-08-15 20:51:13 UTC
They should just be moved to a museum. Merkel is too contemporary.
2017-08-15 20:51:25 UTC
Speaking we started recently removing our communist statues. Surprised they lasted so long in country where propagating totalitarian views like fascism, communism and NS is illegal.
2017-08-15 20:52:48 UTC
What country
2017-08-15 20:58:57 UTC
Poland
2017-08-15 21:20:04 UTC
👀
2017-08-15 21:23:24 UTC
Communism isnt totalitarian dummy
2017-08-15 21:24:22 UTC
How it isn't? All communist states were totalitarian. That's how our law specifies it anyway.
2017-08-15 21:24:51 UTC
No Profile Pic = No Brains
2017-08-15 21:26:01 UTC
In the eyes of a ex totalitarian communist state it is
2017-08-15 21:26:14 UTC
(As an albanian i know what im talking about)
2017-08-15 21:26:33 UTC
Wow Albania, wasn't Hoxhaist Albania literally DPRK tier?
2017-08-15 21:29:54 UTC
Socialism can be totalitarian not communism. Communism is stateless
2017-08-15 21:30:19 UTC
Just leaving this here
2017-08-15 21:31:53 UTC
Law says totalitarian ideology of communism
2017-08-15 21:32:00 UTC
In the constitution
2017-08-15 21:41:43 UTC
>law
2017-08-15 22:09:06 UTC
It's funny how people say these confederate statues are mass produced pieces of shit only put up to reinforce racism and yet a lenin statue is saved because "it's a work of art"
2017-08-15 22:09:39 UTC
Isn't Lenin's statue ironically privately owned near a Freemason lodge? Lol Soviets hated masonry
2017-08-15 22:09:44 UTC
The funniest thing I've seen so far are the people saying it wasn't even a real statue because of the way it crumbled, like do these people know how bronze statues work?
2017-08-15 22:13:29 UTC
then of course there were the responses to it
2017-08-15 22:13:45 UTC
They mayor said "there are better ways to tear down a statue"
