Communism is based completely on dialectical and historical materialism. Like a science it is based on observing trends throughout history (Marx made the observation that there are 4 modes of production throughout history which are primitive society, slave society, feudal society and capitalist society and that through class consciousness and the gradual decline and inconsistencies of Capitalist mode of production, there will eventually be a Communist state. This is however open to interpretation, making it a practical and realistic ideology as some people view it in a Marxist-Leninist way (State socialism gradually giving way to full Communism) or an Anarchist way (Executing it by immediately forming councils and siezing the means of production). There are many different ways that it can be executed.
