The Katyn Massacre means the shooting of some 10.000-20.000 polish officers, soldiers etc. in the Katyn, Poland. First reports of Katyn came to light when the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union and occupied Eastern Poland. They claimed to have discovered Polish victims of the soviets.

However this narrative has been questioned. Bodies thought to be buried in Katyn have been discovered elsewhere, Nazi bullet casings found among the bodies, letters found in the pockets of corpses dating the killings to the time when the Nazis (not the soviets) occupied Eastern Poland. The main source for the modern allegations against the Soviet Union was a transit document listing names of prisoners who were to be sent elsewhere. Many anti-communists have claimed this was a list of people to be executed, but this is not the case. In the 90s a forged Katyn document aka. "closed packet 1" also surfaced and was disproven. In his memoirs Molotov stated the Soviets killed some 3000 polish anti-communists who had participated in the Polish invasion of the Soviet Union in the 1920s. He denied that the Soviets were behind the Katyn Massacre.
