The US will be at a significant disadvantage compared to other nations if Americans truly insist on crippling the ability for the US to operate at the meta level.
Maybe more transparency is good, but having foreign governments hack one side but not the other creates political asymmetries. All sides have responsibilities to the American people, and weakening one side creates imbalances in the fulfillment of those responsibilities.
Maybe empathy can't scale beyond Dunbar's number, but maybe mindful compassion can.
Trump is definitely a distraction, but there really is stuff going on that shouldn't. I suppose Trump is a chaos generator forcing us to pick our battles?

Is it just me or is there a double standard between the responsibilities of speech expected of judges and presidents?
Judges are supposed to stay out of politics, but does censorship really prevent them from having biases in their rulings? Was there any proof that his actual rulings were biased, or does the government really expect people to be naive enough to believe a judge is more impartial if they make a good show of censorship?

The government isn't supposed to punish people for their free speech, unless it incites violence.
Then there's some debate over hate speech.
I do agree that judges have an extra clout of authority that they have the responsibility to not abuse though.
So I suppose it depends on the context of how he shared his opinions.
Both the Left and Right are worried about fascism from the other side? Making a judge go without pay for 6 months for non-violent speech is a step closer to fascism.

Judges are supposed to make impartial rulings. They are not supposed to stop being people.
