Religious individuals obviously hold onto certain metaphysical beliefs such as souls, the afterlife, angels, spirits, demons, and of course a belief they were created in the image of God(s). In connection with these beliefs comes belief in purpose, meaning, value, and worth. Nietzsche later went on to criticize how religion ties self worth into the immaterial and heavenly as this rejects our material existence, our only existence.
