Ratel 20 after all
Its probably still the oerlikons then
It has thicker armour
Cool little bit of info about a friend of my dads, his father actually helped to translate the swedish manual for the oerlikon into afrikaans and he helped construct the first training guide for it, he also worked with armscor/denel on optimising the gun for south african use
Must be loaded then? Those okes usually are
Not at all really
This was wayy back in the 60s or 70s and he still just got regular army pay
9 days and my working season is over! Back to modeling for Op Savannah soon lads!
It'll be glorious! Between this and the Armscor mod I'm so hyped!

Psst Rhodesian Bush War is also being planned on but I'm very quiet about that as my primary focus is on the Border War. Cool thing is many assets can be reused such as the Alouette, Eland, R1 and more.
Long as you don't bite off more than you can chew, I'll be happy with anything related to either war. Shame they're so forgotten in the west.
It's far easier to make content for SQUAD than it is for ARMA. So don't worry about that
Really? Why's that?
UE4 is very userfriendly
Is ArmA running on an old-ass engine, or was that a different game I'm thinking of?
ARMA 3's modding tools are pretty difficult to learn and use in comparison to UE4. Far more tutorials out there for the latter too
And yes ARMA 3's engine is built off of an engine developed in the late 90's. First game that used that engine was Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis
Released in 2001
I have yet to find a picture of an R1 with a wooden handguard. Which leads me to believe there weren't any?
Sure will do although I believe he was in the SADF with the R4 already in use. As the R4 was adopted in 1980 iirc.
The R1 is seldom seen in pics during the 80's
Oh yeah he served later on, but he's still the best person to ask that I know of
Ja
I believe he was in in the '90s
When you've got gyppo guts...
You gotta do what you gotta do...
Some troops wore shorts but not as common as our Rhodesian brothers.
Serious question, wouldn't shorts be a problem as they'd let your leg get all scratched up, or is that just a problem I've had in my particular environment?
SQUAD already has an FN FAL but it isn't the same variant as the R1. I'll have to model the R1 as a consquence. No problem though. I'm going to cheat a little and use the SQUAD FN FAL as a base to model over.
Ja shorts were a bad idea. Not just for the notorious haak n steek (thorn bushes) but sunburn too
Why did the Rhodesians wear them, then? Cost effectiveness?
Likely just preference. Rhodesians didn't fancy trousers in the blistering heat and humidity. Probably considered the thorn bushes as worth the risk for the increased airflow and thus comfort of shorts.
Rhino G6-45
Love this photo... a South African will improvise a braai regardless of the circumstances he finds himself in.
Sexy G6
No braai? Fuck that lets braai on a spade.
I'd love to have the ability to load rounds directly into the G6 as seen here. But definitely not something I'd include in the initial release of the G6 in OPS.
I can imagine pressing F to pick up a projectile. It then pops into your hands and you run over to the back. Press F again to pop it into the G6. Load and fire...
