I’m not sure if we’re going to start rightwingpoetrysquads, but to me poetry is an exercise in developing style and grace. Poems are short and force you to focus on the timing (meter) and the visceral impact words can have. Truthfully, I don’t have much of a history with poetry, I even hated it as a kid, but as an adult I know words are powerful. They affect people in ways they don’t understand, which can even seem like magic. I’m sure that’s why it’s called “spelling.”

So we can start with this. I’m a poetry pleb, but I like it.

Blake is solid. I like Ralph Waldo Emerson a lot as well.

I have to check out Emerson. I remember I liked his essay self-reliance.
