Imagine not having 50+

2021-01-25 16:20:30 UTC

@MofoDoggo Depends on how long each chapter is and how long you want your book to be... Typical novels have chapters ranging from 3,000-5,000 words. If you're aiming for the typical length if a novel (70,000-80,000) then I'd imagine you would have around 25-30 chapters. Keep in mind, theres nothing wrong with shorter chapters, but very long chapters can be problematic: people like to have breaks, and may lose interest if the chapter seems to go on forever.

2021-01-25 16:36:18 UTC

having like 70 chapters each 2-3 pages 😎

2021-01-25 16:36:43 UTC

I feel like having more than 25 chapters, someone might lose interest.

2021-01-25 16:36:59 UTC

Also I will be sprinting after I get lunch if people are down

2021-01-25 16:42:40 UTC

As many as it takes lmao

2021-01-25 16:43:32 UTC

If your material stays gripping enough, people wont lose interest no matter how many chapters there are in the ned.

2021-01-25 16:43:34 UTC

If the book is super thick and I don't trust the writer yet, yeah, super long (and even a million chapters, but they're all short) is off putting to me.

2021-01-25 16:44:27 UTC

Carrion Comfort is a very long book, but I trusted Dan Simmons and I was into the story. I don't think I've met an indie writer who I would trust so much to start the book if it is that long/thick.

2021-01-25 16:44:58 UTC

Not even Indie specific either, I guess... I just have to really be down for the idea of the book lmao.

2021-01-25 16:48:13 UTC

I agree with @DisneyChick but really thick books are also really daunting

2021-01-25 16:48:39 UTC

which is kind of why I tried to keep my first part short so people would get into it

2021-01-25 17:00:52 UTC

Yeah. Once you've got the readers buy in, they'll agree to a lot more, like be less daunted by large word count.

2021-01-25 17:10:17 UTC

Just don't go full Stephen King and print bricks.

2021-01-25 17:11:23 UTC

for real.

2021-01-25 17:13:54 UTC

Yeah... and especially dont drown the reader in exposition and backstory right at the beginning. Why I can never get past the first chapter with a lot of his books

2021-01-25 17:14:27 UTC

you mean don't explain all the lore in the first chapter?

2021-01-25 17:15:53 UTC

Both

Me reading through all my prompts and realizing most are about gruesome murder, kidnapping, and Stockholm syndrome: <:Nervous_Monkey:797288817115267082>

Write cute rat stories. You have endless motivation now.

2021-01-26 00:24:21 UTC

Honestly, I prefer darker stories.

2021-01-26 00:25:21 UTC

One of my prompts ended in “something something something, stuff happens, people die and are eaten, doggos galore”

I never have.

2021-01-26 00:27:52 UTC

Lmao one of them ended with “yay happy woot woot”

2021-01-26 00:28:12 UTC

I've been told multiple times in my life that if I wrote my life as a book, no one would believe it.
