mars was almost exactly like earth. but the core of the planet (exactly like earth is suffering now) started to shut down. gravity was reduced and the water on the surface once evaporated instead of making clouds, goes to the outer space and ceases to exist. thats why mars has water only under the rock surfaces. but it is theorized the humans came from there once it became unhabitable.
