2021-02-22 02:33:09 UTC

U can argue with valid points and the other person either gets really mad or confused or both

Dude makes an interesting case for why reincarnation was traditionally seen as a curse/burden within most religious/spiritual traditions, as opposed to the more positive view taken up in the modern era.

To summarize, the quality of life for the average person has improved drastically since the industrial revolution, and reincarnation is thus viewed more as an opportunity rather than a punishment.

2021-02-22 18:37:30 UTC

I'm here.

2021-02-22 18:37:42 UTC

So uncanny valley

2021-02-22 18:38:21 UTC

What kinda predator has given us that visceral reaction

2021-02-22 18:38:47 UTC

Right. I've seen things that provoke that kind of response in me. Not to such an extreme extent, but I know what it feels like for sure.

2021-02-22 18:40:01 UTC

As far as a predator? I've never heard that particular theory flown before. I've heard psychological explanations for it.

2021-02-22 18:40:17 UTC

Well its basically a predator response

2021-02-22 18:41:00 UTC

If a large predator rolls up and it gives the Same reaction

2021-02-22 18:41:02 UTC

Alright. *That* I did not know.

2021-02-22 18:41:02 UTC

nightstalker's (literal human douchebags) used to creep around our place, and it was sometimes weird cause they didn't always look real when you saw their silhouette run across the yard. We had videos of these jerk-offs climbing on our shed roof and it just looked ominous on the white-phosphor night vision. That's the easiest experience I have that I can explain. Kept me up till like 3:00 or 4:00 each night when I was 14. xD

2021-02-22 18:41:18 UTC

Yeah

2021-02-22 18:42:06 UTC

Ok, so wait: Just because it provokes the same response as a predator doesn't necessarily mean it's a predator.

2021-02-22 18:42:21 UTC

right.

2021-02-22 18:42:32 UTC

just a sensation of vulnerability?

2021-02-22 18:43:00 UTC

What you're talking about is a deeply ingrained flight response that goes all the way back to when humans were still crustaceans skittering across the ocean floor.

2021-02-22 18:43:32 UTC

lmao, idk if we were ever crustaceans, but yes, our more primitive ancestors.

2021-02-22 18:43:51 UTC

Its more then a sense of vulnerability.

2021-02-22 18:44:16 UTC

Because it evokes fear in everyone past a normal predator response

2021-02-22 18:44:23 UTC

right.

2021-02-22 18:44:57 UTC

perhaps a better example would be like encounters with what one may describe as a ghost or demon?

2021-02-22 18:45:09 UTC

like it resembles a human, but not in the normal way

2021-02-22 18:45:58 UTC

Which means the fact that it's common among all people means there was something that caused that reaction. Because without a solid reason for the evolution of that trait

2021-02-22 18:46:09 UTC

Right. And that's exactly what I'm talking about.
What the uncanny provokes, from what I've heard, is because it lacks any sort of...I dunno...hard to explain.

Alright. So imagine your brain is kind of like a computer program. Our most complex programs are built upon simpler programs that hold them up.

2021-02-22 18:46:38 UTC

right

2021-02-22 18:47:07 UTC

Its a fear in the reptile part of the brain

2021-02-22 18:47:55 UTC

First there are conscious fears, fears of things we've personally experienced. That's the first kind of fear that our brain reaches back to, but that's the least type of fear, because it's a fear we've conquered (usually) and even if we haven't conquered it, we at least know how to avoid it.

2021-02-22 18:48:55 UTC

If our brain finds something wrong with a situation and cannot find a consious fear, it reaches back to the monkey brain to find an instinct there. But that fear is a bit bigger.
