I wonder how well inflatable space crafts do against space debris. It's claimed to be better

^no inflatable modules

That prototype by Bigelow Aerospace is on the ISS as of now

2021-03-13 03:06:31 UTC

It's doing really well in terms of taking on micrometerite hits

2021-03-13 03:35:21 UTC

Honestly no harm, unless you think it’s unnecessary because it’s just wasting money but that’s wrong thinking

2021-03-13 03:41:49 UTC

No harm but much better. The U.S. has enjoyed a position in military superiority maitinting world stability. However with forgein adversaries such as Russia and China shifting focus to anti satellite warfare due to the U.S. military’s massive dependency on satellites, it is the necessary move to prevent further conflict. Plus there are so many resources on the moon and on asteroids, and if the U.S. loses access to these, it will be detrimental to us and our allies.

2021-03-13 03:47:28 UTC

It would be the responsible thing to do for any country to make a division of the military for any new domains where threats exist that can threaten their citizens and allies. We know that our foregin adversaries have intent to utilize space for their offensive interests, it is necessary to have our own division in such a domain to suppress further conflicts and defend against such threat. The presence of the space force has already arguably deterred some conflicts. A separate branch allows for the proper funding and interest to be cared toward this new war space for the safety our our country and allies.

@ASween what is your idea first? My thought would be looking into what exactly does USSF do (ie. Goals, missions) as well as the history and/or inspirations around the USSF

From a video that i watched on USSF, their domain isnt just shooting rockets into space, but also technology. Specifically technology that would need to be set up in space and/or use outerspace as a medium (ie. Satellites)

Personally for me i dont particularly care about the space arm race, but controlling satellites is extremely critical. It means you control means of communication and probably may also be able to manipulate or inject false information through satellites technology (you can mentioned the hack into the wh a few months back. The case never got resolved from my understanding and we are still in the dark on who or what hacked into the us government system)
