then... they aren't so big anymore

2021-02-17 15:54:26 UTC

not just that, censoring is an issue too

2021-02-17 15:54:29 UTC

well

2021-02-17 15:54:43 UTC

dont need to worry about big tech censoring if they dont have enough money to even operate anymore

2021-02-17 15:55:21 UTC

You'd have to destroy the data itself, or else they still have terabytes of potential blackmail material.

2021-02-17 15:55:21 UTC

twitter kept banning right wing, pro-hindu handles

2021-02-17 15:55:39 UTC

let me just say, the method I have would not involve actually destroying the data

2021-02-17 15:55:43 UTC

we could all chose to put them out of business, but some people chose not too

2021-02-17 15:55:53 UTC

but collecting the same data through other means, and consistently undercutting the rates that big tech sells it for

2021-02-17 15:56:09 UTC

and eventually big tech makes a penny for what used to be a dollar

2021-02-17 15:56:15 UTC

or less

2021-02-17 15:56:27 UTC

So basically, you become what you hate.

2021-02-17 15:56:31 UTC

not at all

2021-02-17 15:56:42 UTC

the data isnt the threat

2021-02-17 15:56:50 UTC

its the corporate liberal elites who run the companies

2021-02-17 15:57:00 UTC

the data is simply the means to censorship and anti-competitive behavior

2021-02-17 15:57:33 UTC

the people who want the data (mostly advertisers) dont really care for censoring

2021-02-17 15:57:47 UTC

they can choose where to advertise certain products, but that's far from the pure censorship we see from big tech

2021-02-17 15:58:18 UTC

If the advertisers don't care for censoring, why did so many of them pull out of running their ads on Tucker Carlson after the left decided he should be canceled?

2021-02-17 15:58:22 UTC

I think you forgot the part where people value privacy.

2021-02-17 15:58:47 UTC

Not to mention after this whole thing with Google and FB and others, I'm far more cautious about giving my data to anyone, competitor to Google or not.

2021-02-17 15:59:16 UTC

thats not censorship

2021-02-17 15:59:22 UTC

and most of the server farms of these platforms are in china

2021-02-17 15:59:25 UTC

thats just not wanting to put your brand on that station / attach your brand to those particular views

2021-02-17 16:00:01 UTC

In an attempt to make them get rid of Tucker due to lack of money coming in through ad revenue, though. That's where it becomes, in my mind, a bit of a censorship issue.

2021-02-17 16:00:08 UTC

depends what we are talking about but facebook, google, microsoft are all mostly US/EU based datacenters

2021-02-17 16:00:24 UTC

sure, but what are you going to do? say that they HAVE to put their money into tucker carlson?

2021-02-17 16:00:52 UTC

No, however it does kinda go against the idea that the companies don't care for censorship, only about making money and getting their brand out there.

2021-02-17 16:00:55 UTC

I had a very intriguing conversation with my parents about this 'censorship' and there were some stark conclusions that I was able to make.

2021-02-17 16:01:00 UTC

I mean

2021-02-17 16:01:05 UTC

what are you going to do?

2021-02-17 16:01:34 UTC

for example Gina Carano... she is in some respects a public figure of disney

2021-02-17 16:01:36 UTC

Honestly? I don't know. Most of the ideas that I've had would involve compromising principals at one stage or another.

2021-02-17 16:01:41 UTC

if she says something they dont like

2021-02-17 16:01:51 UTC

they have every right to fire her

2021-02-17 16:02:07 UTC

its a public company

2021-02-17 16:02:11 UTC

we are allowed to upset by that

2021-02-17 16:02:26 UTC

but its not like legislation would be a good solution

2021-02-17 16:02:32 UTC

Yes, and they also have the right to keep someone like Rian Johnson on their payroll, despite his shit opinions, which is why I make it a point to not give any money to Disney.

2021-02-17 16:02:50 UTC

yep

2021-02-17 16:02:58 UTC

I would agree there is a hypocrisy
