There is a Polish tradition called "Święconki" (more like a slavic tradition because I know some of the russian orthodox do the same) where on Holy Saturday, we prepare a basket of small portions of the dishes we are going to eat on Easter Sunday and we then go to church so the Priest can bless the food.

Asked around, apparently the objection was on grounds of hygiene, that tampons are unhygenic compared to cotton pads, the American bishops initially objected too but it was only by the 1970s that doctors decided to admit there was an epidemic of especially young women getting lethal or at least severe infections due to the material being used being friendly to a paricular bacteria
