it makes ALL the difference

2018-07-07 03:21:44 UTC

it makes no difference

2018-07-07 03:22:09 UTC

What difference is it if you ban gay marriage based on explicit observance of the moral law or ban gay marriage from a secular argument

2018-07-07 03:22:34 UTC

Well I should say making a secular argument while holding private religious intentions

2018-07-07 03:22:37 UTC

once you say the laws should be informed by the Catechism, you're no different than a theocratic state, which Jesus was against (Mark 12:17)

2018-07-07 03:22:51 UTC

I deny this allegation

2018-07-07 03:29:22 UTC

We would say that Christ rebuked the pharisees for their denial of the legitimacy of his ministry not because they worked in concert with the state. Your position forces you into contradiction where you must uphold the legitimacy of immorality (which you even allied with Satan directly) for the public while holding a private position congruent with morality.

2018-07-07 03:30:20 UTC

(which you even allied with Satan directly)
"He will smite Satan, but only after he has fulfilled his purpose: Exposing evil to the angels who never knew sin."
I have no idea what you're going on about

2018-07-07 03:30:36 UTC

I never said to have a private or public opinion

2018-07-07 03:31:05 UTC

You clearly did

2018-07-07 03:31:34 UTC

"...your life should resemble the life of the Son of God."

2018-07-07 03:31:48 UTC

I'm saying to justify enforcing laws you should use the evidence from man, not authority from God. Rendering things of Caesar to Caesar, and things of God to God.

2018-07-07 03:32:26 UTC

Now, you can find evidence by using the Word of God as a starting point, which many of the greatest scientists of mankind did

2018-07-07 03:32:52 UTC

Why is it moral to make a law based off of completely irreligious appeal to consequences and why is it immoral to make a law based off of religious doctrine

2018-07-07 03:33:56 UTC

Jesus never established a theocratic state, so I have no idea what you're suggesting by quoting me with "...your life should resemble the life of the Son of God."

2018-07-07 03:34:25 UTC

It means you are supposed to live in imitation of Christ

2018-07-07 03:35:20 UTC

And Christ never said the government should be informed by scripture. He instead explained how the life of righteous individuals will follow the law, by accepting his sacrifice.

2018-07-07 03:36:17 UTC

Imitation of Christ means following Christ's conduct, how he lived, what he taught etc. Why would we do this in everything but our civil law?

2018-07-07 03:43:29 UTC

Because civil law is not the same as individual life. It involves enforcement of punishments from the state on others. Since civil laws will be applied to those who are not Christian, it shouldn't only be based on the morality of God.

Take for example gay marriage. I believe it shouldn't be allowed because Genesis defined marriage between man and woman. Jesus recited this in his arguments with the pharisees. When it comes to enforcing it, you can point to how allowing gay marriage destroys the functional purpose of the institution: the production of offspring for the state.

2018-07-07 03:44:04 UTC

"Because civil law is not the same as individual life. It involves enforcements of punishments of the state on others. Since civil laws will be applied to those who are not Christian, it shouldn't only be based on the morality of God. "

This is to imply that morality is dualistic.

2018-07-07 03:45:41 UTC

I believe in absolute moral truth from God. Man-made governments are not of God, they are of man.

2018-07-07 03:46:00 UTC

Should all men not conform themselves to truth?

2018-07-07 07:26:47 UTC

Can Mormons post here?

2018-07-07 07:27:08 UTC

2018-07-07 18:50:37 UTC

clergy i think

2018-07-07 18:51:06 UTC

i'll ask around

2018-07-07 18:51:13 UTC

big thank from big zombo

2018-07-07 18:51:58 UTC

i've heard that myself

2018-07-07 18:53:09 UTC

from what I've been told (by smart and reliable people) that clerical abuse was basically isolated in the 70's-80's and petered out after that
today after the reforms of Benedict 16 (then Cardinal Ratzinger) the barriers to entry into the clergy are actually quite strict

2018-07-07 18:54:22 UTC

i see i see

2018-07-07 18:55:05 UTC
