Shadetree49, I agree what comes from the pedestal or pulpit must speak the Word of GOD and walk in humility and confidence in the Word as it goes forth. Otherwise the pew or congregation will grow weary in well doing and fall away. I have had one Pastor in my 30 years of being a christ person, not meaning I've just lived in one place with same Pastor. I've lived in alot of places and been involved in many churches, but there's only been one of the many that the Pastor truly had a Pastor's heart. He operated in teaching sometimes but that Pastors heart was always evident. I saw him desire to love unconditionally for the 6 years we lived there. That is truly the key I believe.

@Prayer Warrior Thank-you for the prayers. Went to the doctor today with my husband. His numbers have been good for three months and staying stable. No chemo. Wait and watch. If this stays like this hopefully he can go to wait and watch for every 6 months instead.

Thinking this morning about works and the book of James, which I've always had trouble reconciling with the grace I see in the bulk of the other scriptures. I think what the Lord is trying to point out here, at least in part, can be summed up in the word 'attitude'. Attitude can be described as the place where 'motive' and 'objective' intersect. (more on this as I ruminate) Feel free to add your comments.

Simply put works are a natural product of faith. Look at the parable of the talents. Faith is a gift that is never earned though.
