Interesting thing I just found. In the part in the Quran that says what to do with prisoners, slavery was not an option. Prisoners were supposed to either be let free or ransomed. π€
So now I wonder, do anyone have any sources to *why* the many islamic nations of history would use slaves?
"accidentally"
cus the book is so twisted it makes no sense?
Not really an argument. I'd like to understand why it was used. I of course understand the practicality of it all, but how they deemed it ok is the thing I am wondering.
Muslims were not to be enslaved... the kuffar are fair game
That thing I sent is about the kafirs.
It is about war in general
Why imprison those that your religion says you have to set free?
π€·πΏ
I'm in the middle of some other stuff at the moment - but I'd need to look it up anyway... at a guess, there will be a single verse being used as the excuse to justify on basis it was written later i.e. supercedes the harmonious writings of the early Qu'ran.
I will probably read up tommorow. I got quite intrigued. Oh well good luck with what you're up to!
I welcome Muslims having a BIG THINK . Maybe they can figure it out cus they invented tracking stars but cannot understand their own fucking book π
cheers, you too mate
2000 years and still this book makes no sense but white people went to the moon cus the Maths said the moon would be there
@MountainMan
Slavery was remarkably common in all cultures up until recently. So the specific mention of it would not be neccessary in most contexts. Like a modern philosophy mentioning seat belts.
@Jym Very true. Good point.
In a way considering rules for slavery may be some of the earliest civil rights movements. That someone thought, "perhaps they should have more rights than furniture and farm animals. People are kinda dicks.
a third of the oldest written laws known to man were about the treatment of slaves (Hammurabi Code)
100% agree - slavery pre-dates recorded history
