Because he's a hawk and most of the people on this server are doves.
There are times when you have to break a nose, though, I hope Trump doesn't lose his spine.
No problem breaking a nose when the situation calls for it. But you have soldiers that was not born when the Afghanistan campaign did start serving in Afghanistan. It just a waste of money and personnel with no charge for a chance. At one point you just have to cut losses and accept that it was a failure
@MountainMan some nazis did something
gaming
@Nordhand Most soldiers seem rather reluctant to just leave, they know that the ground their buddies died for years to take will be retaken in days.
A large number of soldiers are there on their Xth tour rather than their first.
Think it might even be the majority
it the sunk cost fallacy problem. we have spend so much on it that we cant afford to stop now even if we are not seeing results. the problem in Afghanistan is that you cant solve it as long as you have a huge part of the population refusing to change
and unfortunately you just can't kill them all
@EnderOctanus Iโm a hawk

It's not up to the soldiers that got down at dirty in Afghan what happens there.
Obviously the blokes want to have another pop at the group that slotted their mate but at the end of the day wars do come to an end, and soldiers understand this. It's not a personal vendetta.
Although some officers who serverd in Afghan early in their career who are now in the 'advisory' positions will have some allegience to carrying on the fight, they have to come to terms with a fact they already know by engaging with the local afghan populace, they simpley do not give a fuck.
A simple tribesman in one province, especially true of southourn Afghanistan, just wants to farm. He gives less than a shit as to who is the ruling power, be that ISAF or the Taliban, as long as he gets his crops in and feeds the family.
The talks in Qatar are the best route out, because if NATO can get confirmation (with a clause that we have free reign to strike known TB/Terroist camps in Afghan) that the Taliban will just keep to afghan affairs and not support any other terror group then we are good to go.
Insert a 'strike first' clause in which NATO can strike without prior warning and prove to the government of afghanistan retrospectively that the specific area they targetted was a terroist haven for groups intending to strike any Nato ally. The UN can then corroborate that information.
Its time to cut loose from Afghanistan.
Or just bomb it into oblivion
hard to bomb someone that is bombed past oblivion ages ago
Getting an insurgency to the negotiating table is victory in itself.
yea, and over time a better way to get them to change for the better
Totally agree.
This is the best fucking news I've come home to yet
Based.

Whatโd he do?
He's Bolton
He didn't want to negotiate with the Taliban
Pompeo did
Ah
Bolton did want to continue the fruitless wars in Afghanistan and middle east for reasons
Bolton tbh was an excuse to intervene in Venuzuela, who pushed his hand to far for the taliban negotiations, and so was fired.
