although you could say theyre more inventions, and being useful were never UNLikely to be used across the globe
it's still cultural
i guess there isnt a standard definition of a cultural artifact which can be appropriated. lotta categories may apply or no
its cultural but its also status quo to use many cultural inventions from everywhere
whereas the headdress is *edgy as fucc*
i'll say one thing
the Asian mall is not complaining about my weab ass shopping there and giving them money
the whole thing is silly. Personally I wouldn't wear something with significant cultural value that I didn't earn, just out of respect. But If someone else does it what can you really do, they're just assholes.
And Natives tend to sell their cultural artifacts at various cultural events attended primarily by local whites
What about not clothes? Can I use a Persian rug in my home?
. . . can I shop at IKEA?
I'm mostly talking about things with some spiritual significance.
i'm just following thier logic to its conclusion, which is me asking them whats okay if i do
the majority of "culture appropriation" is just another way to shame white people.
This one is great. Guy gets mad at Simpsons, makes documentary. Simpsons responded with a wink and a laugh--which the critic calls a slap in the face. Yes, not taking you seriously is akin to assault.
https://nextshark.com/simpsons-uses-lisa-throw-shade-apu-racist-stereotype-controversy/
They are mad because they made Lisa address it specifically
I watched this whole video when it came out too
this is how you know we live in prosperous times, people need to find things to complain about
The Problem with Apu is that stereotypes are still funny--maybe because theres a percentage of truth to any stereotype?
plenty people starving in bad health in some slum have to listen to this garbage 😄
the thing is, if you follow this to it's logical conclusion, you will end up with no cultural diversity in entertainment. Like, if you made Apu less stereotypical then it would be "whitewashing". The characters would not be allowed to be genuine because it is perceived as making fun of them. I mean where do people want to go with this stuff? have they thought about it at all?
are movies and tv just going to be segregated
Also once again the most murderous thing someone could do to another human is *make fun of them*
what is the correct way to portray a minority?
apparently its your responsibility as a white media bro to hire a consultant
What the fucking hell is going on
its an idiot idea once you reduce it--because there are less of these people here, you have more responsibility towards them in media
It's a lose lose situation, there is no way to not fuck it up
if you put them in, you are exploiting them, if you leave them out, then you dont like them
insanity
Indians technically only a minority when IN the US
So if pop dwarf us, we can make fun? Is China a minority too now?
being culturally sensitive/aware or whatever they are calling it, will just stifle creativity.
there will be an ever narrowing window of what is okay to put in a story or a piece of art
Yeah. Imagine a new show like Beavis & Butthead or South Park debuting today
Comedy is in the toilet
But we cant even discuss important issues without fear of being racist. We cant look at numbers, we cant point to them in explanation. The numbers hate Chinese man
I cant believe that some of these people are still on tv, like trevor noah, like who watches that shit? It is painfully unfunny
I gave Trevor a chance
He's just not that funny
And he tries to be *cute* between lines the way Jon did
