although you could say theyre more inventions, and being useful were never UNLikely to be used across the globe

2018-04-11 03:50:16 UTC

it's still cultural

2018-04-11 03:50:43 UTC

i guess there isnt a standard definition of a cultural artifact which can be appropriated. lotta categories may apply or no

2018-04-11 03:51:35 UTC

its cultural but its also status quo to use many cultural inventions from everywhere

2018-04-11 03:51:47 UTC

whereas the headdress is *edgy as fucc*

2018-04-11 03:52:05 UTC

i'll say one thing

2018-04-11 03:52:24 UTC

the Asian mall is not complaining about my weab ass shopping there and giving them money

2018-04-11 03:53:22 UTC

the whole thing is silly. Personally I wouldn't wear something with significant cultural value that I didn't earn, just out of respect. But If someone else does it what can you really do, they're just assholes.

2018-04-11 03:53:28 UTC

And Natives tend to sell their cultural artifacts at various cultural events attended primarily by local whites

2018-04-11 03:55:35 UTC

What about not clothes? Can I use a Persian rug in my home?

2018-04-11 03:55:50 UTC

. . . can I shop at IKEA?

2018-04-11 03:57:54 UTC

I'm mostly talking about things with some spiritual significance.

2018-04-11 04:02:28 UTC

i'm just following thier logic to its conclusion, which is me asking them whats okay if i do

2018-04-11 04:03:26 UTC

the majority of "culture appropriation" is just another way to shame white people.

2018-04-11 04:04:06 UTC

This one is great. Guy gets mad at Simpsons, makes documentary. Simpsons responded with a wink and a laugh--which the critic calls a slap in the face. Yes, not taking you seriously is akin to assault.

2018-04-11 04:04:36 UTC

They are mad because they made Lisa address it specifically

2018-04-11 04:06:30 UTC

I watched this whole video when it came out too

2018-04-11 04:06:41 UTC

this is how you know we live in prosperous times, people need to find things to complain about

2018-04-11 04:07:00 UTC

The Problem with Apu is that stereotypes are still funny--maybe because theres a percentage of truth to any stereotype?

2018-04-11 04:07:36 UTC

plenty people starving in bad health in some slum have to listen to this garbage 😄

2018-04-11 04:11:40 UTC

the thing is, if you follow this to it's logical conclusion, you will end up with no cultural diversity in entertainment. Like, if you made Apu less stereotypical then it would be "whitewashing". The characters would not be allowed to be genuine because it is perceived as making fun of them. I mean where do people want to go with this stuff? have they thought about it at all?

2018-04-11 04:11:58 UTC

are movies and tv just going to be segregated

2018-04-11 04:12:02 UTC

Also once again the most murderous thing someone could do to another human is *make fun of them*

2018-04-11 04:12:48 UTC

what is the correct way to portray a minority?

2018-04-11 04:13:18 UTC

apparently its your responsibility as a white media bro to hire a consultant

2018-04-11 04:13:20 UTC

What the fucking hell is going on

2018-04-11 04:14:22 UTC

its an idiot idea once you reduce it--because there are less of these people here, you have more responsibility towards them in media

2018-04-11 04:14:39 UTC

It's a lose lose situation, there is no way to not fuck it up

2018-04-11 04:15:20 UTC

if you put them in, you are exploiting them, if you leave them out, then you dont like them

2018-04-11 04:15:38 UTC

insanity

2018-04-11 04:16:13 UTC

Indians technically only a minority when IN the US

2018-04-11 04:16:34 UTC

So if pop dwarf us, we can make fun? Is China a minority too now?

2018-04-11 04:18:43 UTC

being culturally sensitive/aware or whatever they are calling it, will just stifle creativity.

2018-04-11 04:19:29 UTC

there will be an ever narrowing window of what is okay to put in a story or a piece of art

2018-04-11 04:19:49 UTC

Yeah. Imagine a new show like Beavis & Butthead or South Park debuting today

2018-04-11 04:20:09 UTC

Comedy is in the toilet

2018-04-11 04:21:11 UTC

But we cant even discuss important issues without fear of being racist. We cant look at numbers, we cant point to them in explanation. The numbers hate Chinese man

2018-04-11 04:21:12 UTC

I cant believe that some of these people are still on tv, like trevor noah, like who watches that shit? It is painfully unfunny

2018-04-11 04:21:25 UTC

I gave Trevor a chance

2018-04-11 04:21:33 UTC

He's just not that funny

2018-04-11 04:21:55 UTC

And he tries to be *cute* between lines the way Jon did
