I've heard Milo used the term before he knew Spencer was using it.

So it's a bit confusing.

I saw that, in his cathy newman interview, where he said "A fresh new movement for conservatives with new ideas"

Later Milo gave up on trying to define the term himself, and just let Spencer have it.

Now he just refers to it as him being a bit misinformed about the usage of the term.

I don't think it's fair to say it "started as...", because the root of the term, "alternative right" fit more than one group.
