Look it up, their official name is the Estados Unidos Mexicanos
or United States of Mexico/United Mexican States
Something that blew my mind
Is that income tax wasnt a thing till ww1
never realised that
It was like less than 1%
There were wartime income taxes
Yeah
and they never got rid of them afterwards
but it was ruled unconstitutional in peacetime
until the 16th Amendment
I wouldn't complain about having Sonora as a US state
Just demanded more and more and more
Yo why does waluigi get neglected in every smash bros is it cause nintendo wouldnr smash like thats so bad
And look where were at now. 40% income tax where I live, VAT at 20%
They literally take more than 3/4 of your money
In fact, direct election of Senators is a newer concept in the US than the peacetime income tax
Where the fuck does it all go
Actually, Kazza, they DID undo it after wartime
Defense budget
Dude the defense budget in the UK is like 2%
It's just that the 16th Amendment made it legal in peacetime
Oh UK?
Repeal the 17th amendment, change my mind.
Uhhh
25% goes to folk not wanting to work, the other 50% to fatties on the NHS
I'm honestly on board with repealing the 16th and 17th Amendments
What are they?
16th is for peacetime income tax in the US
17th is for direct election of Senators
Why the 17th?
Because the Senate's point is to represent the states, on a government level, not be a popularity contest
^
The fact that we're looking at a real possibility of seeing a Kid Rock versus Eminem race for US Senate in Michigan makes for a VERY good case against the 17th Amendment
it also set the US on the road of ending layer cake federalism, which had the final nail driven into its coffin by the New Deal
Does democracy work
If people can vote for their own votes and money
