That privatization is why the US excels at innovation in that field
Most of my regular perscriptions and checkups are free
even when I had a cyst removed a few years back I was covered for the lion's share of it
Hormonal anticonception was developed in Europe
Folks from Canada come down here for shorter wait times and, in more extremen cases, rarer/more experimental treatments
That's true.
So there is innovation in Europe
From my family doctor saying "yeah that's a cyst, sorry man" cause it was in a spot that made walking and sitting pretty fucking annoying, to getting it removed, was almost a year
But it was almost free
That's the trade-off in canadia
especially with this "right to try" law we're looking at
if not already have
This is the trade off
Experimental traetmets are expensive
Yeah, Canada and the US have this healthcare deal almost in place where our folks migrate over the border if they need something from the other system
So it wont get funding
Ye Ye
But yeah like, other surgeries i've had, esp emergency ones
When I was... Between 5 and 7 some fuck picked me up by the feet and swung me around for kicks and cracked my head open on a brick pillar.
My biggest objection to nationalized healthcare will always be the potential for political weaponization
ditto the time I fell on a set floor and simultaniously split my chin open and bit almost through my lower lip
Look at how much the US government managed to politically weaponize *collecting income taxes*
*wet floor
Then imagine what it could do with *literal life-or-death power*
yeeaaah
your guv'ment lies to do that
*likes
I wouldn't doubt that yours does, too, you just hear less about it
We do it silently
I've heard rumors of "death councils" or whatnot in Canada for people on life support, since the healthcare buck stops with the government in Canada instead of the family
y'all are so fucking loud on the world stage Canada can do almost anything without being noticed
Gordon Sinclair said something to that effect
"You talk about scandals and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everyone to look at."
There's a pierre trudeau quote I like, for when I talk about america a lot and someone says "why does it matter we're not America":
well hey, if it makes you feel any better..:
As a Canadian speaking right after the US pulled out of Vietnam, he continued, "Even the draft dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, most of them ... unless they are breaking Canadian laws .. are getting American dollars from Ma and Pa at home to spend here."
`"Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt. Pierre Trudeau"`
My favorite Pierre Trudeau quote is this one
He was a real badass
