So I'm watching the last season of friends

The show seems to be going down the loss route

This show went from a season where a character buys a 20000 dollar boat by mistake

To a serious romance drama

It's still as funny as before, I'd say more, since I actually care about the characters

But I don't think it's gonna be funny anymore

a lot of shows like that get all emotional towards the end

Like...season 9 started off with Two characters getting drunk and married in Vegas

Season 10 starts of with two characters finding out they're infertile

It's so weird

i never really got into that show

Like, they literally have an episode where Ross gets depressed and gives himself second degree burns

lol

It's funny...but what the fuck man

It's a cynical, everyone-is-terrible show now

And it's even better than before, but the shift was kinda jarring

maybe they got new writers around that time

Nah, it's the same writers

Martha Kaufman and the two other guys

And even the director is the same

Oh wait

Martha's mother died during season 9

Maybe that's why the show is getting so.much more depressing?

seasons 9 was right after 9/11, i wonder if that had something to do with it?

That seems too much of a stretch

i'm mostly joking

but you never know, maybe the writers were sad and it was unconsciously expressed through the show

It's possible

Almost self aware yet still so deluded

It's like everyone hates each other on the show

They're always cheating and backstabbing, keeping secrets from each other, ruining other's lives

Phoebe convinces this dude to leave his career and come to new York to propose to her

And then rejects him and says yes to another guy in the same scene

It's not even played off as funny, it's just sad

it's possible that the executives pushed it in that direction after some market research or something.
