It is simple advice. If I say to someone "stop eating the pickles you've had up your ass" both of us know that there is no obligation to actually do it, and that it is advice that will hopefully be followed.
You're just trying to convince yourself, I know what you're set to do.
To be fair, I can see why someone who has spent so much time getting people fired for their beliefs would perceive it as a threat. I am someone who has never attempted to persecute someone for their beliefs, so you need not worry.
