"AB 329, authored by Assemblymember Shirley Weber, would update and strengthen existing law to ensure that students receive sex education that is accurate, comprehensive, medically accurate, age-appropriate and inclusive. LGBT students are too often made to feel invisible, or worse, stigmatized in health classes. LGBT-inclusive education has been shown to have a positive effect on school climate overall and make LGBT youth feel safer in school. AB 329 will thus lead to greater understanding and acceptance of LGBT youth and families. Additionally, the bill will update curriculum on prevention of sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and pregnancy. EQCA is co-sponsoring AB 329 with American Civil Liberties Union of California, California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, Forward Together, and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.

Status: Passed the Legislature. Signed by Governor Brown on October 1, 2015.

Author: Assembleymember Shirley Weber (D-San Diego)"

2019-09-16 08:43:52 UTC

it does however ban religion in it

2019-09-16 08:44:09 UTC

yey! \o/

2019-09-16 08:44:10 UTC

or restrict religion from the sex ed

2019-09-16 08:44:12 UTC

lol sry

2019-09-16 08:47:01 UTC

anyway after a quick skim it doesn't look like this bill describes anything specifically

2019-09-16 08:47:21 UTC

it just refers to 'appropriate' materials

2019-09-16 08:47:59 UTC

well u know the socialist left trans are in charge of whats 'appropriate' in the classrooms

2019-09-16 08:48:15 UTC

first thing that caught my eye was a bit about how only the depiction of genitals in certain text books is considered acceptable

2019-09-16 08:48:38 UTC

so then why attack that law?

2019-09-16 08:49:12 UTC

lets see...when i was in school...sex ed was 12th grade only

2019-09-16 08:49:33 UTC

well back then asbestos was considered a good idea 😛

2019-09-16 08:49:38 UTC

then when my siblings' kids were in school, it was 8th grade for sex ed

2019-09-16 08:49:49 UTC

sex ed can begin at age 5 or so, if done correctly

2019-09-16 08:50:09 UTC

actually the asbestos was banned when i took sex ed for at least 10yrs

2019-09-16 08:50:11 UTC

in fact, it will be done one way or another, if not properly, then horribly incompetently

2019-09-16 08:50:16 UTC

usually by the parents

2019-09-16 08:50:36 UTC

kids will ask where babies come from

2019-09-16 08:51:07 UTC

well in the old days we'd say the stork brought them...now we just say - amazon

2019-09-16 08:51:08 UTC

i was given an honest answer, and a book with the basics

2019-09-16 08:51:17 UTC

at age 5 or 6 or so, it didn't damage me

2019-09-16 08:51:26 UTC

lol amaztork

2019-09-16 08:51:41 UTC

well it was either that or ups/fedex

2019-09-16 09:00:31 UTC

2019-09-16 09:08:23 UTC

lol

@DaveyJones

Why does it matter? Because;
1. The state is not any child’s parent
2. This is desensitizing little children and all children to sexually explicit behavior.
3. Appropriate for the state is not appropriate at all. The state determining what is ‘appropriate’ means 4 years will be taught about anal sex.
4. The world you grew up in is nothing like this shitshow going on today. The book your parents handed you wouldn’t have turned into gender reidentification surgery.
5. My child, my right to not teach them about sex, sexual positions, birth control, and whatever nonsense my little children don’t need to know. It’s my business. They are my children.

This isn’t complicated. The state does not birth babies nor does it produce shit.

2019-09-16 12:59:29 UTC

It seems as though you have no problem with this bill because you don’t think parents are educationIng their children about sex, well it’s our right not to. And yet I have no grandchildren by any of my unmarried adult children. SHOCKING

2019-09-16 13:48:48 UTC

@Mary Poppins Well put. I wasn't a fan of the public school system when I finished. Nearly 15 years later, I have a child going in. Now all the reasons i hated it, and more, are again rearing their head. I agree, my 5 year old IS asking where babies come from. But I can explain it without getting into the details, and the degeneration that has nothing to do with reproduction.

The problem with the state teaching your children these things (and anythingfor that matter), is they have to package it up and deliver it in a uniform manner to everyone. While you the parent knows your child, what they know and don't know, what pace they can absorb the information, and the best way to deliver that information.

2019-09-16 14:23:23 UTC

@Mary Poppins don't presume to know my life.

2019-09-16 14:23:38 UTC

and nowhere in that law does it say anything about the actual material.

2019-09-16 14:25:16 UTC

and #1: neither are many parents, and somebody has to protect children from stupid and shitty parents too

2019-09-16 14:29:19 UTC

#2 there is nothing in that actual bill that says anything about the curriculum whatsoever.
#3 see #2, it is society that determines what is appropriate via consensus. if kids are being taught about anal sex it is because the entirety of LA has gone psychotic

2019-09-16 14:29:22 UTC

@DaveyJones

Where am I “presuming”.

2019-09-16 14:29:54 UTC

It’s public ed, what do you think they’ll use? Not hard to figure out
