who're they
People who engaged in Thirty Years' War
It was probably the most devastating war in Europe
ww1
was worse i would say
WW1 killed ~1.5% of human population and Thirty Years' War nearly 2%. German and Czech lands recovered much slower compared to WW1.
yeah but the 30 years war left a slight political hegemony that was stable, ww1 directly lead to the onset of ww2 if were talking about after effects
and the human population thing, population demographics expanded after colonial expansion and industrialization
Thirty Years' War led to more agressive colonization, that caused many deaths as well and it made free space for Prussian militarism.
Human population thing is legit in this comparison, because even with tanks, gas, aircraft and more urbanized population WW1 killed less % of European population than few absolute monarchs.
the wars covered similar land mass but the populations of the worlds landmass had drastically changed. Outside of Prussian expansion, I wouldnt say the 30 years war lead to much more.
but fair enough i guess
The 30 years war broke the popes monopoly on European geopolitics
And it pushed countries to focus their warlike tendencies to the Americas
Plus it made people question previous religious and moral ideas which led to the enlightenment
