Landmass is good, if its got resources you can harness. One example of landmass being good is the US, massive landmass with massive amounts of fertile land for farming + massive oilfields and such. But a case of landmass being bad is Russia, very little of that land is actually farmable and the environment there isnt ideal for oil drilling
