The topic with the most bang for your buck, not including any metaphysical stuff, is the nature/nuture debate. I bought my first book on that topic (Evolution and Human Nature) in 85 when I was 15. That one subject can go a long way.

It's pertinent to today because it's much to do with sex/gender and race, and why people are the way they are.
