It depends on how much into homesteading you’d be, some plants need to be checked on and watered twice a day to have a good full harvest, and chickens need to be monitored for the first month or two of their lives as they’re small and need a heat lamp, but once the chickens are grown you just have an enclosure and feed them, change their water once a day and you’re fine, they take care of themselves. The plants usually do fine by themselves as long as you can force yourself to water them at least once every day and fertilize once a week (separate from the once a day watering)

If you get full grown chickens you don’t need to worry about raising them, but you won’t have a bond w them so it could be harder to gather eggs and care for them

goats keep the yard trimmed lol

Rabbits are a great option for meat as they breed very quickly, grow pretty quickly, and don’t require much stuff to be content and breed

also they are delicious
