^ keep in mind a large reason why the war on drugs was started was due to the cartels in Mexico bringing in modified drugs but you are correct

Overall it was a dumb idea, because there was a large loophole pharmaceutical companies used to push pain pills

according to this TED talk, most of this drug addiction is caused anyway due to societal/social problems,
if you have a working social net, family, you basically have no reason to develop an addiction,
it's only when the family unit gets destroyed, etc
then this shit starts to happen more and more (and imho that's why the demand for that shit is so high)
