(ok, I hate most of the publisher's plattforms, but I hate steam especially)
I don't buy games there, unless they are on sale , and <5$ or so xD

the best gaming story is equivalent to a weak novel. the best games create experiences that utilize the interactive format. if i want to watch hours of cutscenes with dialogue that doesnt match or account for the events of the gameplay thats not a good story. but if the game rests on the individual choices and experiences of the player, it can transcend and do what books cannot

unfortunately, most games dont do that. because its tough. instead i shoot 50 guys in the head and then go into a cutscene as if nothing happened and i have to suspend disbelief. or accept that every protagonist in every game is a casual mass murderer.
to be honest a large chunk of games are just people's ideas that wanted to be movies and became games or "games" instead :V
you're never going to get a Fyodor Dostoevsky story in a game.
Are you sure that's not just your negative perception of it?
yeah. but at least in games you have interactivity ... instead of just sitting there and watching the movie
most games dont even utilize their greatest strength, which is interactivity. games want to shove a B movie story down my throat when i just want to play
@[chase dreams] it's not negative perception
it's just he has outgrown it ...
thats why games like the elder scrolls are so popular despite their bugs. because its an experience
It has nothing to do with outgrowing anything
that combines player storytelling with narrative storytelling
imagine fucking 1984 as a game where you're playing as a prole
Now you're speaking my language
misery simulator
resident evil 2 remake was fantastic because it used the interactive nature of its medium to create tension. the game had like 3 or 4 cutscenes
Get laid fagtows, ha!

i hate the current state of gaming, just like the current state of movies and literature. everyone is buying garbage and becoming personally invested in it so any criticism comes off as a criticism against the person themselves
agree
Is that how you percieve my argument?
what was your argument
woot
that was mean XD
i scrolled up and it was something about cod and jrpgs being the new philosophers
That games can still dive into the same topics or themes as books and still have the same layers of depth as the novels.
sure, i agree, but they have to approach it using the strengths of their medium
if games try to copy movies they will fail. they need to be games first
But you just said they couldn't
because they dont
There's a difference between "couldn't" and "don't"
@Happy Humble Hermit what’s your favorite game type btw
