friend got lucky when he was an ex prisoner to get a job working for a conservative...he was a skilled machinist

2020-08-21 21:06:33 UTC

paid him close to a fair union wage

2020-08-21 21:06:51 UTC

i wish it would be the 60s or some shit like that

2020-08-21 21:06:54 UTC

an era where people had critical thinking

2020-08-21 21:07:10 UTC

I don’t care about your background, if you’ve had a lifestyle change and your skilled in your work, id hire you for the full price

^

2020-08-21 21:07:25 UTC

However, I’m not an employer, so...

2020-08-21 21:07:29 UTC

critical thinking in the 60's ...age of 'free love' and 'hiding under desks for nuke attacks'

2020-08-21 21:07:35 UTC

lol

2020-08-21 21:07:38 UTC

those infomercials

2020-08-21 21:08:04 UTC

that's a small portion of cons in the 60s

2020-08-21 21:08:27 UTC

growing up parents made me read dictionary and encyclopedias

2020-08-21 21:08:48 UTC

and those books were mostly pre 60's

2020-08-21 21:08:49 UTC

So, there's the highlighted "importation" but what stood out more (to me) was the "as president". 🀨

2020-08-21 21:09:29 UTC

we lived in the city and even we had the famer's almanac

2020-08-21 21:09:52 UTC

also had the complete works of shakesphere

2020-08-21 21:10:04 UTC

sun tzu too

2020-08-21 21:10:15 UTC

had alot of interesting books

2020-08-21 21:11:05 UTC

ma would hit book stores or thrift stores to find 'college' books for us to read and learn ahead

2020-08-21 21:11:08 UTC

Those are all good books.

2020-08-21 21:11:51 UTC

just wish she stole the medical books from that bio lab tho

2020-08-21 21:12:09 UTC

there was shit in there u couldn't find online

2020-08-21 21:12:40 UTC

i wish i coulda stolen them as well..i did work there for a while

2020-08-21 21:13:09 UTC

stupid lab used a simple keypad on the library

2020-08-21 21:13:24 UTC

We didn't have good internet growing up...it was the age of the 56k modems and aol. So books was all we got.

2020-08-21 21:13:25 UTC

with screws on the keypad

2020-08-21 21:13:49 UTC

i'm in my mid 50's

2020-08-21 21:13:58 UTC

so for me, it was pre aol mostly

2020-08-21 21:14:13 UTC

So u know how it was.

2020-08-21 21:14:51 UTC

it was faster connection to mail via postal a floppy to a friend in another state or nation than to rely on 'internet' connection speeds to do it

2020-08-21 21:15:24 UTC

Yeah, i remember.

2020-08-21 21:15:55 UTC

why do u think aol sent out floppies to everybody...free signups and first month free

2020-08-21 21:16:14 UTC

because to dl it would take a few months over dialup

2020-08-21 21:16:40 UTC

well with aol's speed...most of the connection to aol was to dl their spam

2020-08-21 21:17:08 UTC

compuserve was actually faster for the same modem connection....almost no spam

2020-08-21 21:17:30 UTC

and just as cheap if not cheaper...yet 'aol' won the dialup wars

2020-08-21 21:18:18 UTC

they got their users via mass spamming via postal, and they made most of their money from the spam online

2020-08-21 21:19:54 UTC

i never actually had my own dialup access via compuserve nor aol(pc was allergic to aol)...my first dialup experience was via my bro's bbs servers...my first isp was 'erols internet' ..and that was for 56k modems

2020-08-21 21:20:33 UTC

i had rigged a switch in my basement where my pc was setup ...near the incoming house phone line ...to cut off all incoming calls to phones in the house while i'm online via the modem

2020-08-21 21:20:46 UTC

parents weren't very happy but they soon accepted it
