theres enough complaints about how the old career politicians have so much say over the people they are so disconnected from, why should we make the gap even wider...?
20% of the people that go to Parris Island dont make it through boot camp. 1/5 people that thought they could. If the people that trained hard for it still dotn always make the cut, then how can we say that the 99%+ of people who dont even want to try can make it?

yeah, but the whole entire premise of Starship Troopers is to satirize that line of thinking, and to show why its goofy. I think humanity would be better off and a lot less shitty if that was reality, but its just not going ot happen.
and with this required military service, i guess disabled people dont get voting rights? im not talking about just mentally handicapped people with ADD and ADHD or something like that, but what about people who are bound to a wheelchair for life? they wont get the right to vote.
its not just liberals that cant server/wouldnt make the cut... there are plenty of very conservative, hyper patriotic, red blooded Americans who cant make the cut either. and i dont think theyre bad people or shitty people because of that.
my Grandfather on my Mother's side, and one of my Uncles on my Mother's side served. Grandfather was a Marine in WW2. Uncle was Army in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Korea.
