Just like I'd use companion instead of comrade, I use patriot instead of nationalist even though have the same meaning, the way they have been used in history and what they are usually associated with is that of negativity.

That was my thought on it as well. If you are knowingly commiting a criminal act like that, why would you throw your camp under the bus with a hat? Not to mention it's the only fraud story I've seen cnn put up.
