If the entire story revolves around people being gay, then it will look political

2021-01-03 23:01:51 UTC

If you include gay people, but actually have a compelling plot and a good story, then at most people will see your book as woke

2021-01-03 23:02:43 UTC

Depends on how you write it

2021-01-03 23:03:09 UTC

I have some experience with helping others write characters and expand on their plots

2021-01-03 23:03:18 UTC

Bruh. Really!?

2021-01-03 23:03:48 UTC

If you want them to be Gay, just try not to make it be their defining character trait

2021-01-03 23:03:52 UTC

There's only like four or five main gay characters I could think of in my story.

2021-01-03 23:04:01 UTC

EXACTLY

2021-01-03 23:04:20 UTC

They can be gay, or whatever you make them, as long as their character isn't "Im gay so respect" youd have a shot

2021-01-03 23:04:39 UTC

Make sure you dont have to many main characters

2021-01-03 23:04:45 UTC

Indeed.

2021-01-03 23:05:02 UTC

Depending on the story, 3 main protags and 1 main antag is usually a good formula

2021-01-03 23:06:09 UTC

Indeed. And it always depends on what form of fiction are you writing on. This form of fiction that I'm writing on is high fantasy. Basically meaning that it's fantasy that takes place in a different plane of existence.

2021-01-03 23:06:43 UTC

That sounds interesting

2021-01-03 23:07:48 UTC

I'm glad that sounds interesting!

2021-01-03 23:10:27 UTC

See the high fantasy part the setting part is what makes it interesting not the part of some silly trait that the characters have!

2021-01-03 23:10:28 UTC

Yeah, just dont throw in Gay people to be woke, make them have a purpose lol

2021-01-03 23:11:44 UTC

For a good look at how gay people can work, look at Nick from the Rick Riordan Percy Jackson series, hes a gay character, but it really doesnt affect the story, of course Rick, later has a Bi character in a later series, but it goes along with the story and works with it

2021-01-03 23:11:59 UTC

True! Well I guess you could say my main core reason why I made the characters gay is that because I kind of want it to be about like a metaphor of being different on different levels. And also I did give a few negative traits to my gay characters for the fact that they are gay. For an example to two gay male characters in my story don't understand women so they kind of appear very sexist to women.

2021-01-03 23:12:34 UTC

I am glad about that! Like I said I'm just having a moment of self-doubt.

2021-01-03 23:58:27 UTC

Yeah, I feel like writing them naturally and just like everyone else is the way to go

2021-01-03 23:59:16 UTC

A huge misconception out there is that all gay guys act the same. In reality, it depends on the subculture they buy into

2021-01-04 00:00:28 UTC

That's actually really awesome! I'd love to have actually finished something; I lose interest quickly only to rediscover them later

2021-01-04 00:01:26 UTC

Self doubt always gets in the way of what I write. Some good advice I heard though was that if you like it, someone else will too

2021-01-04 00:01:53 UTC

The subculture that the two gay men of My Story fall into is basically being the super buff manly men. Like that of Arnold Schwarzenegger and all that.

2021-01-04 00:02:07 UTC

That will definitely set it apart in a good way

2021-01-04 00:02:22 UTC

Indeed. my fear is that people will think that I'm stupid.

2021-01-04 00:02:33 UTC

I rarely see that dynamic outside of LGBTQ fanfics written by members of the LGBTQ

2021-01-04 00:02:55 UTC

So your going the "I pick things up then put them down"

2021-01-04 00:03:05 UTC

Route

2021-01-04 00:03:15 UTC

With the manly bodybuilder gays

2021-01-04 00:03:19 UTC

Not stupid at all! That's honestly an underated protagonist type

2021-01-04 00:03:54 UTC

Even though in the 1980s it was insanely popular! Stuff like Conan the Barbarian and Terminator and all of that!

2021-01-04 00:03:55 UTC

I personally value when a story is told with a protagonist like that, which is funny since I am the opposite.

2021-01-04 00:04:04 UTC

Exactly!!

2021-01-04 00:04:07 UTC

Its a much different take

2021-01-04 00:04:26 UTC

If they say its stupid, then maybe they just aren't good storytellers

2021-01-04 00:04:37 UTC

Really!? Damn people are really missing out!

2021-01-04 00:04:57 UTC

YOU AWESOME!

2021-01-04 00:05:01 UTC

Whereas most writers go the "We need to protect feminine men and femboys," you're paying attention to character types that are in the culture that aren't mainstream

2021-01-04 00:05:50 UTC

It's hard for people to wrap their brains around the idea that not all gay men act traditionally feminine and flamboyant (see Marvel fanfic)
