So only one functions for now

2020-12-16 18:59:44 UTC

You don't have two HDMI ports on your video card?

2020-12-16 19:00:19 UTC

Apparently not

2020-12-16 19:00:24 UTC

I thought I did

2020-12-16 19:00:34 UTC

Until I tried hooking them up

2020-12-16 19:00:40 UTC

Than I found out I didn’t

2020-12-16 19:00:46 UTC

There are DisplayPort to HDMI cables...

2020-12-16 19:01:13 UTC

That’s true

2020-12-16 19:41:33 UTC

You don't want an HDMI splitter, all that would do is make both monitors display exactly the same thing.

2020-12-16 19:42:38 UTC

Yeah I realized how dumb that was after I said it

2020-12-16 19:43:56 UTC

If you have a display port connection in your GPU, that single port can actually drive four monitors if you have a splitter.

2020-12-16 19:45:24 UTC

Display port is different then HDMI, display port actually embeds multiple video streams in a single connection to allow higher resolution, higher refresh rate, and other features.

2020-12-16 19:45:31 UTC

Would having one plugged into the GPU HDMI and one plugged into the display port with a display port to hdmi cable do the same as doing a display port splitter

2020-12-16 19:46:18 UTC

Yes and cheaper, display port splitters are expensive while a display port to HDMI cord is fairly cheap as long as you only need a short cable.

2020-12-16 19:46:42 UTC

Yeah I need no more than 3-4 feet

2020-12-16 19:47:23 UTC

Appreciate the help. Thank you very much. Complete monitor noob if you couldn’t tell lol

2020-12-16 19:47:47 UTC

I have 15 ft display port to HDMI cable because of my unique setup and that thing was not cheap.

2020-12-16 19:48:24 UTC

15ft? No kidding it wasn’t cheap

2020-12-16 19:52:05 UTC

Well the fact I got the desk I was mounting all this on for $20, it stillworked out cheaper then getting a new desk that would not have required such long cables.

2020-12-16 21:02:34 UTC

DP is the best xD

Setup now

2020-12-16 21:17:29 UTC

nice

2020-12-17 03:32:12 UTC

Nice background too, I like the clean setup!

2020-12-17 03:54:48 UTC

Are desktop computers better quality than laptops?

2020-12-17 03:55:42 UTC

Yes usually

2020-12-17 04:03:23 UTC

You can get a lot better parts in a comparably priced desktop than you can a laptop usually. A lot of that just comes down to the extra space you have in a desktop case versus the hyper-constrained space requirements of a thin laptop.

2020-12-17 04:04:38 UTC

Ok👍

2020-12-17 04:04:48 UTC

Thank you two

2020-12-17 04:06:05 UTC

What should my price range be for a good desktop computer

2020-12-17 04:06:33 UTC

What do you want to do with it?

2020-12-17 04:07:21 UTC

No matter what you want to do with it though, pay for an SSD over a hard drive.

2020-12-17 04:08:01 UTC

If you was near me I could give you a decent one. It has a 3ed gen i5 which I know is kind of dated but still 4 cores. It also supports up to 32gb of ddr3 ram

2020-12-17 04:09:25 UTC

Gaming I reckon

2020-12-17 04:09:38 UTC

You will probably want a computer with at least 8 gb of RAM, less then that is constrained with modern Windows and will make things snappier because more can be cashed in RAM.

2020-12-17 04:10:02 UTC

Gaming you may want to go up to 16 GB depending on what game you are playing.

2020-12-17 04:10:40 UTC

Ok

2020-12-17 04:11:23 UTC

Do you have some examples of what kind of games you play? Also, what resolution monitor do you have or plan to have? That will help you from over paying on GPU.

2020-12-17 04:11:35 UTC

Yeah how much would you want for it though

2020-12-17 04:12:26 UTC

Umm not really I just need a pc for a few other things and I don't want to buy another console but enjoy gaming

2020-12-17 04:14:04 UTC

@SomeSouthernGuy it would be free I have 12 desktops and 4 laptops
