2021-01-08 19:23:09 UTC

oh jeez

2021-01-08 19:23:09 UTC

Hmm I'm trying to remember

2021-01-08 19:23:20 UTC

Yeah not a thick tang at all

2021-01-08 19:24:08 UTC

I'm always careful to button right over were my blade contacts the wood, but jeez, I dont think I want to beat on that thing anyways

2021-01-08 19:25:08 UTC

This is why I recommend the Mora Carbon garberg

2021-01-08 19:25:56 UTC

Yeah I wouldn't batton with a KaBar because its vintage and sexy

2021-01-08 19:26:02 UTC

moras are great. I need to pick one up sometime

2021-01-08 19:26:27 UTC

I use them as trash knives that I'm comfortable breaking

2021-01-08 19:26:43 UTC

Especially the Mora Companions

2021-01-08 19:27:30 UTC

Dont be ruining a quality KaBar battoning with it, it makes my heart cry 😂

2021-01-08 19:28:18 UTC

I can't afford to own "trash knives," but I understand what your getting at. And I don't use the my kabars to often. Just once and I while for "light" tasks, b/c I enjoy using vintage pieces.

2021-01-08 19:28:27 UTC

I def. take care of em though

2021-01-08 19:28:49 UTC

any battoning I do is with softer wood too

2021-01-08 19:28:50 UTC

Low key a bit jealous lol

2021-01-08 19:29:17 UTC

eh, if it makes u feel better, they are not 100% my knives. kinda of more my dad's, but I use em

2021-01-08 19:29:24 UTC

Oh yeah GL trying to batton hard woods

2021-01-08 19:29:51 UTC

for hard woods, I usually use my Ontario knife or sometimes my hatchet

2021-01-08 19:30:05 UTC

thing about the hatch though, is that it sucks to carry b/c it weighs a good bit

2021-01-08 19:30:17 UTC

fine for use around the house though

2021-01-08 19:31:25 UTC

Yeah a hatchet take serious weight commitment

2021-01-08 19:32:13 UTC

And its tricky too because if you take a lighter thinner one it doesn't have the thickness to really split wood like you need it to, it'll just get stuck and you wont have the tools to get it out

2021-01-08 19:33:42 UTC

yup

2021-01-08 19:34:10 UTC

The tang on the mora Companion is "Okay" but no where near Full Tang so it is a bit sketchy to batton with just FYI but its excellent at buscraft tasks

2021-01-08 19:35:01 UTC

my hatchet is a thinner one, so I have to use it in conjunction with my Ontario sometimes, if im splitting anyways.

2021-01-08 19:35:19 UTC

Yeah that should work

2021-01-08 19:35:27 UTC

I almost bought this thing

2021-01-08 19:36:23 UTC

Big beefy Sherade battoning knife

2021-01-08 19:37:12 UTC

But I realized it weights close to a
Pound and at that point I might as well take a 1 LB hatchet that has less of a chance of breaking and more versatility

2021-01-08 21:29:10 UTC

jeez, fr.

2021-01-08 21:29:57 UTC

are you familiar with essee knives? I really want to try one of em out, but holy heck they're pricey.

2021-01-08 21:55:28 UTC

I've heard they're worth it, but other than that idk

2021-01-08 21:55:34 UTC

No personal experience

2021-01-08 23:14:34 UTC

Yeah I've only heard good about them. But personally I like spreading my money out as far as it will go rather than buying a peice of premium gear. I'd only go for a Essee once I had ALL my bases covered.

2021-01-14 02:32:57 UTC

That would be a good idea

2021-01-14 02:35:11 UTC

I have a single dorm, but if I can find some scraps that are the right size, I can make a few good tools.

2021-01-14 02:40:30 UTC

agreed. suburbs let you feel like you got your own air. The country lets you feel like you got your own space.

2021-01-14 02:41:54 UTC

the only thing I remotely enjoy about city/urban living is that, if you get lucky, you may only have to walk a block or two for milk.

2021-01-14 02:52:32 UTC

I'll stick with well water. It's chemical-free.

2021-01-14 02:53:14 UTC

What do you guys think between grey man v tac man would you rather have the signal of follow me or blend and not have the advantage of finding/building a potential collective?

2021-01-14 02:53:45 UTC

Something that I have been debating this whole
