oh, gotcha. Ye my kabars are both vintage.
The old ones were killer
Still have rat tail tangs so you have to be careful battoning
mm gotcha.
were the m9 bayonets full tang? idk if kabar made any, but ik my Papa loved em
oh jeez
Hmm I'm trying to remember
Yeah not a thick tang at all
I'm always careful to button right over were my blade contacts the wood, but jeez, I dont think I want to beat on that thing anyways
Yeah I wouldn't batton with a KaBar because its vintage and sexy
moras are great. I need to pick one up sometime
I use them as trash knives that I'm comfortable breaking
Especially the Mora Companions
Dont be ruining a quality KaBar battoning with it, it makes my heart cry 😂
I can't afford to own "trash knives," but I understand what your getting at. And I don't use the my kabars to often. Just once and I while for "light" tasks, b/c I enjoy using vintage pieces.
I def. take care of em though
any battoning I do is with softer wood too
Low key a bit jealous lol
Oh yeah GL trying to batton hard woods
for hard woods, I usually use my Ontario knife or sometimes my hatchet
thing about the hatch though, is that it sucks to carry b/c it weighs a good bit
fine for use around the house though
Yeah a hatchet take serious weight commitment
And its tricky too because if you take a lighter thinner one it doesn't have the thickness to really split wood like you need it to, it'll just get stuck and you wont have the tools to get it out
yup
The tang on the mora Companion is "Okay" but no where near Full Tang so it is a bit sketchy to batton with just FYI but its excellent at buscraft tasks
my hatchet is a thinner one, so I have to use it in conjunction with my Ontario sometimes, if im splitting anyways.
Yeah that should work
I almost bought this thing
But I realized it weights close to a
Pound and at that point I might as well take a 1 LB hatchet that has less of a chance of breaking and more versatility
jeez, fr.
are you familiar with essee knives? I really want to try one of em out, but holy heck they're pricey.
I've heard they're worth it, but other than that idk
No personal experience
Yeah I've only heard good about them. But personally I like spreading my money out as far as it will go rather than buying a peice of premium gear. I'd only go for a Essee once I had ALL my bases covered.
That would be a good idea
I have a single dorm, but if I can find some scraps that are the right size, I can make a few good tools.
