Same here, when it comes to liking both. But I've I've always leaned towards sci-fi
Movie: space opera. Books: standard or even high fantasy
I don't feel that the mysticism in Star Wars detracts from it
The same as the lack there of in Star Trek doesn't either from Trek
My sci fi tastes vary

I like a lot of Alternate reality stuff and steam punk
If you think about it HG Wells' stuff is now considered steampunk

My favorite stories by him are the Southern Victory series where teh South won the Civil War
I do like alternative history stories
He is supposed to be a history professor but he is clueless about what the war was about
Basically the bad guy rises in the South instead of Germany
