yeah it's confusing it was originally named as assault rifle since they assaulted enemy positions on the eastern front, but hitler wanted it named storm rifle (sturmgewher) for propaganda purposes.

How would I get military training without actually joining the military?
unsure if you're asking somebody else, but from my knowledge speaking with recruiters: you can sign up for military cadet programs and they give you a somewhat similar physical training and skills that'd be useful for military later. contact your local recruiters for more info
