Solunar activity makes a difference too

2020-12-05 04:26:58 UTC

First rut is almost over in Central Georgia, going to move into secondary rut soon

2020-12-05 04:27:17 UTC

My dad just said I should switch my hunting times around from evening to midday

2020-12-05 04:28:29 UTC

And yeh @Winnie37a, gotta put in more time bud ;)

2020-12-05 04:28:29 UTC

Imma do out tomorrow it's gonna be nice deer weather but it's gonna be freezing

2020-12-05 04:28:37 UTC

Its suppose to be 29

2020-12-05 04:28:52 UTC

My dad also got a doe call maker that replicated the sound the doe makes when they’re ready to mates have you guys ever used them? And do they work?

2020-12-05 04:28:55 UTC

That's great @KungFlu BatSoup

2020-12-05 04:29:03 UTC

Deer get more active in the cold

2020-12-05 04:29:09 UTC

I love it when it gets freezing

2020-12-05 04:29:17 UTC

I saw 15 does just tonight

2020-12-05 04:29:32 UTC

@Milkgamer55 I have a primos the can and yess it works

2020-12-05 04:30:05 UTC

I was thinking about using it the next time I go out

2020-12-05 04:30:07 UTC

@Milkgamer55 I've tried the calls but they've never helped me. The only use I've gotten from them is stopping a moving deer

2020-12-05 04:30:37 UTC

And even then I was just seeing how they'd react, didn't shoot anything

2020-12-05 04:31:22 UTC

They just got spooked or were like “what’s that!” Right?

2020-12-05 04:31:36 UTC

I was hunting last year with my dad and a nice buck walked no joke 25 years from our ground blind but when he told me I was looking not expecting it to be so close it was in a blind spot

2020-12-05 04:31:48 UTC

If you use it to much they will spook

2020-12-05 04:31:50 UTC

It got their attention, and they were a bit more cautious, but didn't "spook" them

2020-12-05 04:31:57 UTC

I only do twice every 15 minutes

2020-12-05 04:32:32 UTC

Then I also put corn with beet or apple crush, a salt block, and pee

2020-12-05 04:32:48 UTC

That’s what the can said like every ten to fifteen minutes do the call

2020-12-05 04:34:13 UTC

I use corn during bow season, but during rut that does nothing. Calls I've never had work to pull anything in, just stop them in their tracks. Doe urine is a great cover scent and will stop a buck in rut, too. Salt blocks aren't really bait, they're more an investment in the future.

2020-12-05 04:34:27 UTC

During muzzleloader season my dad smoked a deer that was right up on him. And the deer got 10-20 yards before he died

2020-12-05 04:35:08 UTC

If you're going to do a salt/mineral lick, you should keep it up for at least 4 years, and not expect much change until after that

2020-12-05 04:35:41 UTC

It doesn't so much help the bucks that are already around, as the does create healthier fawns during gestation

2020-12-05 04:35:59 UTC

So it’s a set and forget kinda deal

2020-12-05 04:36:07 UTC

Try using a beet, apple, or sweet potatoe crush on your corn I find regular corn does nothing

2020-12-05 04:36:38 UTC

I've used the deer crack as they call it

2020-12-05 04:36:51 UTC

It really doesn't have much effect during rut

2020-12-05 04:37:09 UTC

Works decent here it ain't no miracle attractant but it helps

2020-12-05 04:37:19 UTC

I don’t really use bait a whole lot, I just set up the ladder stands Overlooking the hotspots

2020-12-05 04:37:23 UTC

Mainly pre-rut or post-rut, when the deer are looking for nutrients

2020-12-05 04:37:38 UTC

During rut they only got one thing on the mind

2020-12-05 04:37:49 UTC

And food is plentiful here during rut

2020-12-05 04:37:54 UTC

Have y'all tried fawn in distress calls?

2020-12-05 04:37:55 UTC

Acorns dropping like mad

2020-12-05 04:38:57 UTC

What about dawn to like 10am is that a good time to go hunting?

2020-12-05 04:39:16 UTC

And even pre-rut, it'll depend on your location as to the effectiveness. We have tons of persimmons, and the deer love those. They'll browse around under the tree before touching the feeder right next to it

2020-12-05 04:39:32 UTC

@Milkgamer55 I go from 5 to 12 normally

2020-12-05 04:39:56 UTC

Morning hunts I get to the stand about 30 minutes before the very first rays of daylight
