Unfortunately I was younger, and I could hardly watch the 2012 Lincoln movie

2020-12-06 18:42:39 UTC

Understandable

2020-12-06 18:44:28 UTC

Somewhat recently I rewatched it. It's one of those movies I'd buy the Blu-Ray for 👌

2020-12-06 18:45:15 UTC

👌

My favorite historical movie is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

2020-12-07 05:11:28 UTC

Haven’t seen it.

2020-12-07 05:11:39 UTC

Is it actually good, or is it a great bad movie?

2020-12-07 05:25:08 UTC

I dont remember lol but Abraham was killing vampires so that's always cool

2020-12-07 05:25:10 UTC

!

2020-12-07 13:04:07 UTC

Goddammit

2020-12-07 13:04:30 UTC

My history class just started and already there’s a slide with blm protesters

2020-12-07 14:27:36 UTC

Nobody really. Everyone loses something to some extent in war. The winners just tend to lose less.

2020-12-07 14:27:48 UTC

If that makes sense.

2020-12-07 15:36:32 UTC

i went to Pearl Harbor last Christmas

2020-12-07 18:10:12 UTC

My great great uncle joined the navy in 1941 he was on the U.S.S. Hornet until it sunk and the U.S.S. Northampton until that sunk.

2020-12-08 03:34:58 UTC

2020-12-08 03:35:26 UTC

Say what you want about FDR but that speech was dope

2020-12-08 04:38:12 UTC

I guess December 8th could live in infamy as well

2020-12-08 04:43:03 UTC

Yeah

2020-12-08 12:25:29 UTC

its now December 8th, the day were the USA enters WW2

2020-12-08 15:22:58 UTC

Japan: the risk I took was calculated but man am I bad at math

2020-12-08 15:23:28 UTC

Says the right one I know

2020-12-08 19:16:56 UTC

this was the guy calculating Japan’s risk https://youtu.be/yt4rjnAW2QM

2020-12-08 22:09:56 UTC

Remember that at some point it was mentioned that Pearl Harbor was the result of an intelligence blunder, meaning it could have been prevented but wasn't for some reason

2020-12-08 22:13:42 UTC

Omg yes XD
Well guess I am better at math than I thought

2020-12-08 22:15:35 UTC

from what i remember, the Jap aircraft were detected by radar in the mountains of one of Hawaii's islands, but it was ignored as at the time Radar had been proven to have its own fair issues as it was still fairly new, and hours before the attack a Japanese submarine was detected by a US destroyer who attempted to radio in their discovery but it was ignored so they went to deal with it themselves

2020-12-08 22:19:14 UTC

and iv also heard that the british had key intel that detailed a potential attack on Pearl Harbor, but withheald that info from the US for some reason

2020-12-08 22:19:27 UTC

aka intelligence blunder

2020-12-08 22:20:11 UTC

unless the British knew the US would get involved if a direct attack on them happened, which is good for Britain, hence why they withheld it

2020-12-08 22:20:25 UTC

mhm

2020-12-08 22:37:08 UTC

Dec. 11th. Germany and Italy declare war on the US

2020-12-08 22:38:12 UTC

Also with the radar thing they mistakened the Japanese aircraft for a flight of B-17s.

If you think about it, we technically have England to thank for the 2nd Amendment

2020-12-09 01:23:21 UTC

Thanks you silly funny talking tea drinking colonizers!

2020-12-09 01:38:29 UTC

This isnt really history but here is a piece of mammoth tusk that I bought at a mineral and fossil show at the University of Houston a few years ago. I bought it from a nice couple who has a website you can purchase from named Rich and Lisa Hagar. This tusk was found in Alaska and dates back to the Pleistocene Epoch meaning it is anywhere from 2.5 million go 11 thousand years old.

I believe I payed around 120 dollars for this piece but you can buy whole tusk from them. They had them on display with a small one which cast 2 thousand dollars and there was a massive one which I believe cost 20 or 40k
