The part is what holds the rear attaching pin in place to connect the upper and lower

So what seems to be the problem

The rear attaching pin for the lower has a small detent that keeps it from sliding completely out

It seems it either sheered off or somehow loosened and fell out

Hmm

You might have to twist the pin or look with a flashlight for any damage

If it sheered off then you’ll have to go to a machinist to have it put back
