Anyone here believe red dots are superior to iron sights on a handgun for common self defense shooting?
I feel like the only benefit would be if there was a mass shooter and you needed to pick him off at a distance
Haven't tried on pistol, but for rifles I have much faster acquisition with red dots/holographic sight than I do iron sights.
Oh forsure on rifles
I tried on handguns but honestly it’s just too big of a learning curve. I never trained enough to be as good with iron sights
I grouped better and had faster follow up shots at distance but that was my only take away
So are you for red dot or for iron sights? Your original question seemed like you were mainly iron sight.
If I had a full size pistol I'd probably put a red dot on it, my carry right now is a sub compact which I don't even think a red dot would fit without milling.
On a concealed carry it would just add unnecessary bulk. If you put them on a full size like the P320 for example then it would be beneficial. You just would need a different sized/custom made holster.
Got my own range at my ranch...broken up to different areas of the property, up to 50m pistol, Rifle range up to 150m and a LRS range share with my neighbor up to 600m...all of them with a hill as a backstop.
During the winter I could probably conceal carry with an outside the waistband full size with red dot as long as I got a longer coat. My carry permit also allows open carry and while the town I'm in for college it would probably be just fine I'd still prefer concealed.
Nice, when I graduate and start making real money I want to get a large plot for a home outside city limits so I can setup a range.
I wouldn't mind another .50 cal rifle..I'll enter that
another
50 BMG is really cool, but don't know how I could afford to buy one much less fund the ammunition to have a lot of fun with one. Also, around here, it's hard to find a place where the 50 BMG range could really be taken advantage of.
Definitely iron sights. Red dot only interest me for long range but irons are better up close imo
@Stargatemaster96 I'm lucky that there's a 1000 yard range near me
have yet to actually stretch my legs out there but still, nice knowing I can
hot
I actually think the opposite, for close range I prefer red dot for the fast Target acquisition and longer range iron or scope.
you know whats funny, Britain, who currently have sucky gun control laws, was the ones that encouraged gun ownership back before the whole Revolution thing
I got a firepit for those meat cravings and open steel building for shelter
Ammo storage
nice
you got a bunker yet?
I thought about it
Soils to hard in most places
Also lots of clay
isnt hard soil and clay a good thing though, or does it just make construction a hassle
Hassle
ah i see
Yeah, digging in Clay is a pain.
It's by a river so I got to worry about flooding
