Drum mags are bulky, very bulky, on the weapon makes the weapon heavy and are to maneuver. trying to carry extra mags is very bulky. I can carry more ammo in 30 round mags much more comfortably, and can separate specialty rounds easier.

OK WWII was a Thompson in 45ACP, probably rattled like an MF. But those drums were less likely to misfeed than the 5.56 drum mags are today.
