If I remember right, it was designed for nato that wanted a round that could penetrate light body armor while not needing to worry about overpenetration.

The five seven is basically a pistol that shoots rifle bullets

With the right ammo in the pistol it can still retain the armor penetrating abilities, though the ATF keeps trying to neutered the round as much as possible to prevent that.

Now days from my understanding you have to either buy custom ammo or reload the commercial ammo with more powder to be able to get the ability in the pistol. 🙄

It’s an air soft mag. Though with a 5.7 you could probably make something similar

My though process is that it is cheaper to feed than a .22, and quieter for hunting purposes or plinking around the neighbors

still puts out 20 ft/lbs, so its perfectly adequate for small game too. :/
