I got a pretty stout little 350 in my corvette. The tone that thing puts out is a godsend

Makes enough grunt to get the car moving in third gear in spite of having a 3.36 rear end and a 1.28:1 ratio for third

In the industry they're referred to as "tall" if they're numerically smaller and "short" if they're numerically larger

Shorter gears give the engine more leverage and allow it to rev quicker, so you will generally get better acceleration at the cost of top speed

That's why you have a transmission with different gear ratios in it
