Hooni is that type of design because there are hoonicars too
Is that like a design?
Idk what that is
Not sure
@Mcpuffin First day we brought it home
Transmission pre-rebuild
missing the T tops and all?
I have the t-tops
what was up with the tranny?
Bearings were torched
I had it rebuilt and upgraded by a guy that builds them for drag racing
ahhh the only tranny I really know is the Dana SPicer 300
This here is an M21 Muncie. Quiet brother of the infamous "Rock Crusher"
The gears are cut at a 45 degree angle, which cuts down on noise. Ratios are the same. It's a road racing transmission
2.20:1 first gear doesn't lend itself well for off-the line acceleration unless you gear the rear end accordingly but my car should theoretically be able to do well into the 50s without shifting
Manual?
Yeah
Shit yea GET THAT BITCH UP TO 6k RPM and through it into first
hahahaha
Should handle 6000 rpm
Those are guide plates to keep the pushrods from deflecting at high RPM. Somebody also put a solid lifter camshaft in it that is noticeably choppy at idle
We think it's pushing somewhere in the low to mid 300 horsepower range
Im seeing a single intake on that carb.
Yep, vintage holley single plane aluminum intake
Back when the street dominator was a single plane
Whats this solid lifter cam shaft?
This is the lifter valley of an engine
You see those steel rods?
At the bottom, they fit inside of these cylindrical objects that sit through bores in the casting
Those are the lifters
The lifters ride on this precision ground "stick" called a camshaft
This controls how far and for how long the valves open
Most vehicles today and many even back in the 60s had a hydraulic lifter. Oil pressure "pumps it up" and this compensates for any tolerance stacking or wear in the valvetrain, making it maintenance free. The downside is they don't typically perform well at high RPM
A solid lifter will not collapse, you don't have to worry about check valves failing, lifters having issues pumping up, etc.
A push rod V8.
I prefer twin cam I4’s but that’s just me. I have respect for the V8.
Different strokes for different folks, eh?
Yep.
One of my buddies swapped in a 4A-GE? I think it is, into an AE86
Some 20 valve 4-cylinder from Japan
